The Festival of Culture and Nature, a unique event that combines culture, nature and creativity and is a meeting point for highlighting the rich social and natural local ecosystem, is organized by the Ecomuseum of Zagori on Sunday, August 11, in Ano Pedina.


The event will start at 5 pm with the presentation of RURACTIVE, a European project that brings together interdisciplinary partners from all over Europe, in 12 pilot study areas, one of them being Zagori. RURACTIVE is about empowering communities and rural areas through the development of innovative approaches to sustainable and just transition.
At 6 pm will follow the presentation of the project She Moves Mountains, which concerns the empowerment of the women of Zagori, which includes a narration and parallel capture of their common story on canvas by the artist Kimona Kyrligitsis, as well as a discussion about the inspiration behind from the idea. Visitors will then have the opportunity to explore the soundscape of the village with an audio tour. The program will conclude with a mesmerizing theater performance “The King with the Tree in the Heart”, from 7 to 7.30 pm, by the Bagambodo Theater Group. It is an Epirotian fairy tale for young and old, full of images and symbolism, which touches on issues such as love, forgiveness, the power of togetherness and the futility of violence.
During the event, the Echoversity exhibition on the role of shifting livestock and the importance of women’s presence in the conservation of natural and cultural heritage will be available.
The event promises to offer a day full of culture, art, and enriched knowledge about the natural heritage of Zagori, inviting all interested parties to participate and celebrate the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the area. Participation in the event is free and will be offered traditional pies and sweets to guests.
