We are certainly interested in discussing the possibility of hosting a major event in the city related to the themes of the economy and local development. I believe that Bari is now a city open and ready for events of this type, as we have shown in recent years. We should concentrate on a profound activity of reflection and planning so that we are not limited to the organization of events that are already present on the national scene, but try to understand which is the most useful discussion for our territory which is projected on a national and international scale. . Antonio Decaro, mayor of Bari, welcomes the idea of starting from the experience of the Laterza publisher regarding the organization of an Economy Festival in Bari on the model of the one created so far in Trento. Just when the experience of the Bari group seems to have come to an end. But the point is not to replicate something that already exists. Then the director broaden the range of action with the contribution of suggestions. As happened with the collaboration started with the Turin Book Fair a few months ago, which led us to propose to the city the first edition of the Lungomare di Libri festival involving local publishers – explains Decaro -, in the same way Bari ready and open to new forms of collaboration that allow us to propose a new and declined initiative not so much on the economy of southern Italy, but on the new economies of the southern hemisphere.

The initiative records important positions taken by realities that are ready to collaborate in a concrete way. An idea comes from Lum, where the rector, Antonello Garzoni, makes ideas, spaces and vitality available. We welcome the proposal to start an event linked to the economy in Bari – clarifies the rector Garzoni – and we guarantee concrete support. The economy festival is a successful format and could very well open up to widespread and permanent experiences. Why not combine the testimonies of the Nobel laureates with what emerges from below in our territories? It would be an opportunity to dissect the issues of the future economy, precisely when we are discussing new growth models. The ideas are many. Also the available locations: from the Fiera del Levante (which in the industrial plan elaborated by Pasquale Casillo provides for a foundation of economic studies) to the theaters and conference rooms of the Municipality of Bari. We provide – concludes the rector Garzoni – our facilities and organization with a view to collaboration and exchange of experiences. It would be a beautiful project at a propitious time to rewrite a modern and competitive South.
