Celebrating the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, the second edition of the Festival of Indigenous Culture took a bit of tradition to Praça do Rádio this Friday (11). Highlighting the importance of occupying more and more public spaces, leaders comment on how each achievement is a daily occurrence.

During the opening, the event took the young indigenous orchestra from Campo Grande to perform. In addition, the anthem of the Capital was also sung completely in the Terena language.

In the square, in addition to the presentations, the event also brought together indigenous crafts that are still on display this Saturday. Executive coordinator of Apib (Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil), Val Eloy Terena participated in the festival and commented on the need to value indigenous peoples.

“We are in the second edition of the festival, it’s time to show the variety of our cultures, ranging from food to handicrafts. Today, we are experiencing a historic moment in Brazil with the creation of the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples and we need to take advantage of it”, points out Val.

For singer and social worker Suely Terena, the existence of the festival means an occupation of the centers by indigenous peoples. For her, the opportunity needs to be seized and valued.

“Our cultures are very rich and we need to show that to other people. I believe that by bringing this here to the square, we can share. It is an important moment”, says Suely.
