Fez Festival of World Sacred Music: Crystal Winds treats the audience to a sumptuous show

by times news cr

The artistic troupe, composed of French artist Loup Barrow (Cristal Baschet) and Indian artists JA Jayant (Carnatic Flute) and Kishore (Mridangam), amazed the many festival-goers with complex and rhythmic melodies of Indian classical music.

The Crystal Winds concert transported the audience on a unique sensory journey where the harmony between the two artistic traditions proved that music, whatever its origin, can transcend borders and foster cohabitation and living together.

The soft and captivating melodies of the bansuri intertwined with the crystalline sounds of the Cristal Baschet, creating a unique symphony that quickly charmed the audience.

In a statement to MAP, Loup Barrow emphasized his collaboration with JA Jayant, an Indian flautist and star “with whom we write slightly original music that draws its sources somewhat from Indian classical music.”

“I’m going to play a rare instrument called the Cristal Baschet. They are glass bows, you play with wet fingers,” he explained.

For his part, Jayant stressed that this show is a convergence of two instruments, namely the Baschet crystal and the Indian flute, which is a reed flute.

Speaking about his participation in the 27th edition of the Fez Festival of World Sacred Music, he said that it was a very unique experience.

Born last February during the famous Sacred Spirit Festival in Jodhpur, this incredible musical encounter once again saw the fusion of the bansuri flute with one of the most unusual musical instruments of the 20th century: the Cristal Baschet.

Loup Barrow is one of the few musicians to play the Cristal Baschet, a chromatic instrument designed by the Baschet brothers in 1953. Made of glass rods caressed by the fingers, its acoustic waves intertwine in an ethereal way with the meanders of the bansuri flute.

This new edition of the Festival puts Spain in the spotlight with a program, shows and fusions of artists from both countries, testifying to the historical and friendly ties that bind the peninsula and Morocco for a better future.

True to the spirit of Fez, this edition offers an eclectic program open to the cultures and spiritualities of the world, bringing together renowned musicians such as the great star of Sufi music Sami Yusuf, the virtuoso flamenco player Vicente Amigo, as well as original musical creations such as Yatra-Safar which promises a spiritual journey from the palaces of Rajasthan to the gates of Andalusia or the Stabat Mater concert, conducted by Maestro Paolo Olmi.

The festival also hosts the Gospel Philharmonic Experience, bringing together the great American diva Kim Burrell, accompanied by the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain conducted by Pascal Horecka.
