Conceived and directed by Alain Weber, this creation will tell, through a poetic and musical invitation, of “harmonious Andalusia”, where the beauty of nature and the sacred texts of the Torah, the Bible and the Koran, nourished by ancient Bedouin poetry, majestically rub shoulders, indicates a press release from the organizers.
The diversity of the artists in this creation, who came from several countries (Uzbekistan, Iran, Syria, India, Spain, Egypt, Italy, Armenia, France and Morocco) reflects the spirit of tolerance and openness of Fez and the Festival of World Sacred Music. A spirit that reigned over the theme of this 27th edition which selected Spain as the country of honor.
Bringing together prestigious artists from Morocco and around the world, the show “Zyriab or the fifth string” will highlight the cohabitation aspect of Andalusia in the emblematic Bab Al Makina square. Comedian Rabie Katti will magnify the stage, accompanied by singer Sanaa Maharathi and Sufi music specialist Said Belcadi, in addition to the Ensemble Haidouss d’Oulmès, on a sound design where Lothar by Omar Boutmazzoukht and the Oud by musician Smadj, will bring to life the spectacular performances of renowned dancers.
The creation will also see the participation of Juan Carmona, flamenco guitarist and composer as well as the Ensemble Madalena, a popular female choir from the Pays d’Oc, under the direction of Manu Théron.
The stunning mappings and scenographic work will be marked by a sobriety mixed with colors, calligraphy and mosaics, in addition to the light creations that will be projected on the walls and the remains of the Bab Al Makina square.
With the theme “The Quest for the Spirit of Al-Andalus”, the 27th edition highlights the period of peaceful cohabitation of the religions of the Book in Andalusia from the 8th to the 15th century, considered a “Golden Age” whose spirit continues in Morocco. The creation “Zyriab or the Fifth String” will thus lift the veil on a program that promises an immersion and an unprecedented journey into this era.
