(20/12/2023)

This rolling stock corresponds to the contract that has been awarded to Stadler for 65.2 million euros. Of this amount, 44 million correspond to manufacturing and the other 21.2 million to its maintenance over a period of fifteen years. According to the indicated schedule, the forecast is to deliver the first train in the last quarter of 2024 and begin service at the end of 2025, once all have been received.

The new units will be electric and accessible and will incorporate the latest technological advances to improve comfort and accessibility conditions. Made up of three cars, they will have capacity for 439 passengers, and will have six doors on each side and 164 seats; 140 of them fixed and another twenty-four folding.

In addition to audible door opening and closing indicators, they will incorporate a green-red lighting system for opening and closing, which will facilitate the identification of the maneuver by people with hearing disabilities. Each train will also be equipped with fifteen panoramic customer information screens, five per car. To inform passengers on the platforms, they will have eight exterior LED screens, two of them frontal, located at the top of each cabin, and six on the sides.

Accessibility improvements

The trains have been designed to be accessible, without entrance stairs from the platform and with an automatic ramp at the doors near the reduced mobility area, which will have two spaces reserved for these passengers. This area will be located in the intermediate car and will have a button to request a stop.

The intermediate car will also have a user assistance system with headphones to communicate service transmissions and emergency announcements. The train toilet, also adapted, will have an electrically operated door. Interior passage between cars will be permitted through intercommunicating corridors, with a slight ramp, without steps. In addition, in each there will be two multifunctional spaces for bicycles, strollers, etc.

The presentation of the new trains took place in the Plade Vilanoveta workshop in Lleida, which will be adapted for the commissioning of nearby trains in the capital of Lleida. The intervention includes, among other works, the electrification of roads and the installation of new equipment.

The new service that FGC will operate will convert the current R12 line into the RL3 Lleida-Cervera and the RL4 Lleida-Manresa, and will be integrated into the R4 in the Manresa-Barcelona section, through transfers of between five and ten minutes. In addition, the current frequencies between Lleida and Cervera will be doubled, going from six to twelve per direction on a weekday. The connections between Cervera and Manresa will also be reinforced, which will increase from three to five.
