FGE alert not to be fooled by digital money loan applications

by time news

The Directorate for the Analysis of Digital Evidence and Computer Forensics of the State Attorney General’s Office alerts citizens not to be fooled by digital applications that offer money loans.

Through cyber patrol and investigation work, the department in charge of collecting digital evidence detected apps that were not supervised by the responsible authorities.

In these cases, the first contact is usually through advertising on social networks, SMS messages or through invitations via WhatsApp, where immediate loans are offered with attractive amounts and very few requirements.

The information obtained indicates that one of the conditions is to download certain applications to carry out the procedure through the mobile phone and when installing them, the applicant must authorize access to the personal information of the device, such as contacts, photo and video galleries, location and messaging among others.

After this, they use the information to make illegitimate charges or even in cases in which the “company” does not detect punctual payments, they resort to violent collection methods through harassment, threats and/or extortion.

It is important to point out that cases have been reported in which the affected person downloaded the application and never requested the loan, however, the cybercriminals were able to access the confidential information through the permission granted by the user at the time of installation.

Therefore, it is recommended to take into account the following points:

 Keep in mind that not everything you see on social networks is true; it is necessary to search for the origin of the person making the invitation in order to avoid giving access to confidential information to unknown persons.

 Fraudulent applications use flashy methods to attract attention and achieve deception.

 Not all applications are safe, avoid downloading unofficial applications.

 When installing an application, always read the terms and conditions, as well as the permissions that you are authorizing, since this is the entrance to your personal information on your mobile device.

 Report doubtful pages and applications to the email: [email protected]
