Fiber deployment: So far over 50% are accessible and over 40% are subscribers to the service

by time news

The Minister of Communications, Yoaz Handel, presented today (Monday) to the Chairman of the Economics Committee, MK Michael Bitton, the pace of fiber optic deployment in Israel. As of the end of 2021, over 50% of households in Israel will have access to at least one fiber infrastructure. Of those available for fiber infrastructure, about 40% subscribe to actual fiber service.

The purpose of the Ministry of Communications is to bring about the worldwide deployment of fiber optics. This retirement is a significant milestone in promoting equality of opportunity through bridging physical distances between the periphery and the center, strengthening economic activity in the periphery and reducing socio-economic disparities in the country. As part of the Ministry of Communications’ “fiber outline”, Bezeq has established an arrangement in which it is obligated to deploy optical fibers in the areas it has chosen, which contain about 82% of the households in the country. The rest of the rest of the country, significant parts of which belong to the geographical or social periphery, is currently taking place through the “incentive fund” that will fund retirement in about 480,000 households in the “incentive areas” to which the tenders apply.

The pricing process of the first tender of the incentive fund ended with great success on March 9, 2022, and retirement obligations were set for communication license holders for most households in the incentive areas. Thus, retirement obligations stand at 93% of all households in Israel. The incentive fund will continue to operate until the end of a full nationwide retirement of the fiber optic network, and the Ministry of Communications is working hard to publish a second tender in the coming months.

Chairman of the Economics Committee, MK Michael Bitton: “I congratulate you, Minister Handel, on the great leap and push to connect the Israeli periphery to fiber optics. I also congratulate your CEO, you have won it. The professionals who are here and work in the Ministry of Communications are doing the real work of the fiber-optic revolution. ”

Communications Minister Yoaz Handel: “We have a hard time reporting the exact numbers for good reasons – the retirement rate is insane. We are growing 120-130 thousand homes a month. On the issue of connecting to the periphery we are a light to the Gentiles. There is no other place in the world.” “We are connected to fiber optics. We are realizing Ben-Gurion’s vision through advanced communications infrastructure, thanks to which we will transfer residents from the center to the periphery.”

Director General of the Ministry of Communications, Liran Avishar Ben-Horin: “We want to get to the last of the houses in Israel in a systematic way and the pace is ahead of its time. We currently stand at 93% mandatory retirement, and Bezeq is estimated to meet and even advance the schedules set in its license. We are proud of the pace of retirement progress in the periphery, it is the fastest train to the center and a great promise for the Israeli economy. “I congratulate the professional team in the Ministry of Communications, led by Dr. Ofer Raz – Dror, who is doing an exemplary job. We estimate that within two years we will be among the top 10 countries in the stationary surfing pace and we are in the right direction of traffic.”
