Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Coastal Regulatory Zone Authority has approved the construction of a glass fiber cage bridge between Kanyakumari Vivekananda Memorial Hall and Thiruvalluvar Statue at a cost of Rs 37 crore.

80 lakh tourists visit Kanyakumari as an international tourist destination every year. The Swami Vivekananda Memorial Mandapam located on a rock in the middle of the sea and the 133 feet tall Thiruvalluvar statue on the rock next to it are the primary attractions for tourists.

There are 3 boats operated by Bhoompur Shipping Corporation viz. Vivekananda, Gugan and Bodhikai. Boat traffic to Thiruvalluvar idol is prohibited during periods of low current in the sea, rough seas, stormy winds etc.

To solve this problem between Vivekananda Memorial Hall and Thiruvalluvar Statue Rs. The Tamil Nadu government ordered the construction of a fiberglass cage bridge at a cost of 37 crores. The glass fiber cable-stayed bridge will be 97 meters long and 4 meters wide. Tourists walking on the bridge can enjoy the ocean waves through the glass on the side and below the walkway. In this case, the Tamil Nadu Coastal Regulatory Zone Authority has given permission to carry out these works.
