Fiery Multi-Vehicle Crash Claims Two Lives on Pennsylvania Turnpike

WORCESTER TWP., Pennsylvania – Tragedy struck on Saturday morning as a fiery, multi-vehicle crash involving a tanker and several other vehicles claimed the lives of two individuals and left another person injured. The deadly incident occurred on the Pennsylvania Turnpike’s Northeast Extension (I-476) in Worcester Township, between the Mid-County and Lansdale exits.

According to sources, all lanes of the highway had to be closed down between the two exits as emergency crews worked tirelessly to manage the aftermath of the crash. Turnpike officials have warned commuters that the closure is expected to last for an extended period of time.

Hector Lucena, a passing motorist, managed to capture footage of the scene just after the devastating crash. In the video, Lucena can be heard expressing his shock as he observes the debris scattered across the area. “My god. Debris all over the place. What happened here?” he exclaims, passing by the burning tanker.

Chopper 6 also provided aerial visuals of the tragic incident, revealing the charred remains of the truck cab and two other vehicles.

Drivers caught in the backlog were urged to remain inside their vehicles for safety purposes. Emergency access gates at mile marker 23 were opened to turn around some motorists, and crews removed concrete barriers to facilitate traffic redirection on the highway.

Firefighters were seen diligently spraying foam on the tanker to control the flames.

As of now, the cause of the crash remains unknown.
