FIFA started investigation against Argentina and Netherlands teams. FIFA is investigating whether the players and the coach violated discipline in the match against the Netherlands.
The main allegation was that the referee deliberately gave time to the Netherlands to counter the goal in a match that was full of cards. Argentina’s sub-players and the coach stormed the field and got into an argument. Even after Argentina won the penalty shootout, heated arguments filled the stadium. 17 people including Messi got the card.
This was also a World Cup record. FIFA said that it is normal to take disciplinary action against teams that have received five yellow cards and that is why they have started an investigation against the two teams. Both federations could be fined €16,000 each. Action was taken against Saudi twice in this World Cup for breach of discipline. There is also the possibility of FIFA taking action against Argentina for disciplinary infractions other than the card.
