FIFA rejects Chile’s complaint; Ecuador to reach World Cup

Zurich: Chile, Colombia and Italy have been ruled out of the Qatar World Cup. The teams’ last hope ended when FIFA rejected Chile’s complaint against World Cup qualifiers Ecuador from South America. Chile’s complaint is that Ecuador defender Byron Castillo is a Colombian player.

It was reported that Qatar would qualify for the World Cup with one of the teams from Chile, Colombia and Italy if Ecuador was disqualified based on the complaint. FIFA said it was investigating Chile’s complaint and could not prove the allegations. FIFA has said it will appeal to Chile in a sports dispute resolution court.

Four teams from the South American region will qualify directly for the World Cup. The team that finishes fifth must play the qualifier. Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador qualified directly. Peru is fifth. Colombia finished sixth and Chile seventh. And was disqualified.
