Doha: FIFA Deputy General Secretary Alasdair Bell said that the FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar can bring sustainable and healthy changes in the field of human rights protection. Alasdair Bell added that the FIFA World Cup has played a major role in achieving great progress in the field of human rights and labor rights in Qatar and has been able to have a great impact on the legislative sector in Qatar.

He was speaking on the subject of sports organization and social protection of workers at the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly. Bell stated that FIFA has done great work in the field of labor rights and human rights protection in Qatar, and this has been accepted by the International Labor Organization and the International Trade Union Congress. Working conditions in Qatar have reached international standards, particularly at World Cup sites.

In 2020, about two and a half lakh workers were able to change jobs as a result of the reforms in the labor sector. He pointed out that more than three lakh workers have benefited from the Minimum Wage Act.
