Over the next two years, the following will be developed: new guidelines on addictions. The latest wastewater studies from 2023, for example, show that the cocaine use in Bolzano has increased significantly (21.9 percent compared to 2022). Equally problematic are the samples of MDMA (ecstasy)which even increased by 65 percent compared to 2021.

The addiction coordination unit is composed of Massimiliano Ghezzi (Health Department), Verena Egger (Social Policy), Bettina Meraner (Health Authority), Claudia Prader (Social Services) and Peter Koler representing private organizations. “The interface between health and social services is essential to ensure a holistic and effective fight against addictions,” emphasized Provincial Councilor Messner. “The coordination unit is a central point of contact in the organization of these two areas. Good collaboration is essential to find solutions for people experiencing addiction,” clarified Vice President Pamer.

“It is important to know what the real needs are, so that we can make the right political decisions,” Messner added during the meeting. “We are confident that the new guidelines will make a significant contribution to combating the addiction problem in South Tyrol in the long term,” Pamer concluded.
