Lighting the way for the next generation of cyber security researchers
The first entrance to the offices of the Fortinet research and development center in Herzliya bathed us in pleasant and good natural light. After getting a bit excited about everything that was visible from the huge windows (welcome to the beach strip), we even managed to sneak in some team meeting.
Well, we didn’t really sneak in, but here’s a little overview of who works here and what they do: More than 130 people who are responsible for endpoint security technologies (EDR) come here. The company’s workforce does not stop there – Fortinet employs more than 12,000 people in different parts of the world. The various teams focus on providing solutions and services to more than 615,000 customers who have chosen it to secure their business and data.

So how did it all start? The company was founded in 2000 out of a desire to use the power of the cyber security world to make the internet a safe place. Over the years Fortinet has developed various tools and today it is a corporation with more than 1,260 patents and a comprehensive portfolio of network security technologies.
And yes, these solutions and their innovation are in demand because the dangers in the network are spreading, but here also comes a moment of complication – what happens when, in the shadow of this increase, there is a global shortage of cyber experts? This is exactly the moment when Fortinet decided to act in favor of narrowing the gap. It established a dedicated training institution for this and even stated that by 2026 the company will train a million people in order to continue disrupting the models of cybercriminals.
The scale of titles of the cyber experts already working in the company is broad and particularly interesting: threat hunters, researchers, analysts and data scientists; These are examples of positions in the body responsible for the company’s threat intelligence, so it is only natural that these will also be the mentors for future generations in the field.

A game of maximum comfort
The natural light, the view and the ability to influence the future generation of cyber experts, these are not the only advantages of offices here. Working in the cyber field requires dynamism and high concentration and on some days also many very fast changes and therefore, the design is goal-oriented and comfortable.
The work is in spaces of four to five staff members in each area and there are sitting areas and spacious phone booths for employees who need to conduct conversations without being disturbed. Doz scores in the comfort index as far as we are concerned.
And what about some chill accessories for breaks? We found an adequate answer to this in the game room which includes a TV, PlayStation, ping pong table and a library. There’s a chance you’ll hear the question there – “Who else hasn’t brought back the last of Harry Potter?”, because a classic is important. If this question comes up again soon, it has nothing to do with our visit.
