jpnn.comJAKARTA – The holding of the PB Djarum General Audition every year is a valuable opportunity for young athletes from various regions in the country to compete for the Djarum Badminton Scholarship and join as PB Djarum athletes.

Not only were there participants who had only shown their abilities once, there were also quite a few who had participated in the auditions in previous years.

For example, one of the U-11 participants of the 2024 PB Djarum General Audition from Sorong City, Southwest Papua, La Ode Muhammad Ahsan Kamil. Ahsan, his nickname, has participated in the General Audition three times starting in 2022. On the first occasion in 2021, his efforts to realize his dream of becoming a PB Djarum athlete stopped at the second screening stage. While last year, he reached the first tournament stage.

Failing to win the Super Ticket twice did not make Ahsan give up. This year, he set foot again from Sorong to Kudus to compete in the U-11 group. Kevin Sanjaya’s figure has an important role because he is a source of inspiration and an idol for Ahsan.

“I want to be like Kevin Sanjaya because he started his career as an athlete trained by PB Djarum, so that he could finally become a world champion. Because of Kevin, I also really want to pass the quarantine stage and be accepted as an athlete trained by PB Djarum,” said Ahsan when met after the match at the Djarum Jati Sports Hall, Kudus, Central Java, Friday (13/9).

Ahsan’s efforts to present a maximum performance at the 2024 PB Djarum General Audition were carried out by undergoing intensive training with the PB Champion Kudus club for three months. Starting from physical training to techniques under coach Erick Eriawan. Even though he is far from his parents, his fighting spirit to achieve his dream of becoming a professional athlete remains strong.

“I have been practicing in Kudus for three months so that in this year’s General Audition there will be progress from the previous two years. Although I am here alone without my parents, they always remind me to practice seriously and follow every instruction from the coach. Unfortunately I lost in the top 64, but hopefully I can get a Super Ticket from the Talent Search Team,” said Ahsan.

Similar to Ahsan, another participant who is trying to pursue her dream of becoming a PB Djarum athlete is Leona Afifa who is competing in KU 12. Previously, she had participated in the General Audition in 2022 and managed to make it through to the quarantine stage. That failure did not make Leona give up and want to try again in the General Audition in 2023.
