Erode: Erode East Constituency by-election is scheduled to be held on February 27, nomination filing will begin tomorrow. Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan will file his petition on February 3. While the candidates of DMDK and AAMUK have already been announced, Naam Tamilar Party has also announced its candidate.

Erode East Constituency Congress MLA Thirumagan Evera passed away on 4th, by-elections for that constituency are going to be held on 27th February. The filing of nominations for this will start tomorrow (31st) and will continue till February 7th. The petitions will be considered on the 8th. February 10 is the last day to withdraw the petitions.

As the filing of petitions is scheduled to begin tomorrow, preparations for the same are going on in earnest at the Erode Corporation office. The nomination papers, proposal form etc. have come from the Election Commission to the Erode Municipal Corporation office.

Filing of nominations is going to take place in the room of Sivakumar, the Election Officer and Corporation Commissioner. There are various restrictions on petitioning. Election Officer Sivakumar said:

Necessary arrangements are being made for filing nominations at the Erode Corporation office. Only 4 people should accompany the candidate to file the petition. Only 3 cars are allowed. Cars should be stopped 100 meters before the place of submission of petition.

Nominations can be submitted from 11 am to 3 pm. 10,000 for general candidates filing petition, SC, ST. Section has to pay a deposit of Rs.5 thousand. This is what he said.

Congress has been given a chance to contest Erode East constituency in the DMK alliance. Former Tamil Nadu Congress president EVKS Ilangovan, father of late son-in-law Evera, is contesting on behalf of the Congress.

On behalf of the main opposition AIADMK, Palaniswami and O. Panneerselvam have announced a separate election task force and are actively discussing the selection of candidates.

Alliance leaders O. Panneerselvam, A.C. Shanmugam, John Pandian and Ravi Pachamuthu have announced that they will support the BJP candidate if he contests in this election. Due to this, the BJP is also considering contesting the elections.

S. Anand is contesting from DMDK and Sivaprashanth from AAMUK.

In this case, the chief coordinator of the party, Seeman, announced yesterday that Maneka Navaneethan will contest on behalf of Naam Tamilar Party.

Congress candidate EVKS Ilangovan is scheduled to file his nomination on February 3 at 12 noon. Chief Minister Stalin is coming to Erode to campaign for him. The Chief Minister’s arrival date will be announced later. Minister Udayanidhi Stalin, Kanimozhi MP and others are also going to campaign. The meeting of Tolamai Party leaders is going to be held on February 1,” Erode Minister KN Nehru said yesterday.

Vehicle check at 35 locations

Meanwhile, 3 flying squads and 3 levels of vigilance teams have been formed to prevent giving money and gifts to voters. The team is engaged in 24-hour intensive surveillance on a rotational basis.

Police are conducting intensive vehicle checks in 35 places under Erode East block. While there are already 2 permanent check posts, 10 temporary check posts have been set up for election work.
