New Delhi: Irula dance of tribal women of Attapadi, Shinkari Mela of Kannur. Kerala’s tableau Karthavyapath won hearts in the Republic Day parade with female strength, rhythm and market. Keeping the concept of women empowerment in mind, Keralam presented Tableau with 24 women.

The song that won the National Award for Nanchiyamma, Kerala has once again put the country in front of the nation. And the statue of Nanjiamma holding the national flag in her hands stood smiling in the tableau modeled after Bepur Uru.

In front of the Kerala tableau was the statue of Chepad native Karthayaniyamma who won the Nareeshakti award after winning the literacy test. Kerala’s tableau has been graced by the statue of Karthiyaniyamma, who topped the State Literacy Mission’s Aksharalaksham exam at the age of 96.

Shinkari Melam was presented by Kudumbashree members from Mangattitam and Papinissery in Kannur district. They started learning Shinkari Melam as part of the self-employment project. Mother and daughter came with Kalaripayat. Eight women from the Irula community have stepped up to the tribal tradition and grabbed the nation’s attention. This is the first time tribal dance is part of the Kerala tableau.
