The City of Culture: In a joint initiative of the Habsalet Cultural Center and the Community Security Authority together with the local film-making community, a new cultural venture was born in the city: the Habsalet Rehovot Cinema

As part of the project, every month a film will be screened at the cultural center in the Habsalet neighborhood and immediately afterwards there will be a meeting with the filmmakers

The upcoming screening will be dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the docu-film “The Return to Berlin” will be screened, at the end of the screening viewers will meet the film’s director Bobby Lax

The screening will take place this Thursday (February 16) at 20:30 at Beit HaTarbut Habetselet (10 Hirdan St. – next to the pilot garden)* For more details and to purchase tickets for only NIS 30, call 08-6900567

Another cultural venture was born in Rehovot: every month an Israeli film will be screened at the Beit HaTarbut in the Habezlet neighborhood, after which there will be a meeting with the director and a joint conversation about the creative process and the story behind the film. The project is underway thanks to the cooperation between the community network in the Community Security Authority and the cultural center in the Habezalet neighborhood of the Rehovot municipal society and the local community for Israeli filmmakers.

The upcoming screening of Cinema Rehovot will be dedicated to commemorating Holocaust Day with the documentary Return to Berlin and a meeting with the director Bobby Lex. The film tells the story of Bobby, who shortly after his father’s death, returns to his native England and finds an old suitcase full of documents, letters and photos, documenting the story of his family that perished in the Holocaust – the story that his father hid from him his whole life. He immediately invites Manuel, his childhood friend who comes from a German background, to translate the documents.

Manuel, whose aunt is the widow of the Jewish-American director, producer and photographer Stanley Kubrick, discovers that he too has revealed a dark family secret: his father’s uncle is the infamous Nazi director White Harlan, who directed the film “Jew Ziss”, which was banned from screening and considered a terrible anti-Semitic work in history. Together they embark on a journey to Berlin, which puts their friendship to the test. After the screening, there will be an open audience discussion with the director.
