2011 Diwali Movies (26 October):
1. Velayutham – Vijay, Genelia, Hansika Motwani
2. 7th Sense – Surya, Shruti Haasan
The film ‘Velayutham’ was made on a budget of 45 crore rupees and collected 60 crore rupees. Similarly, ‘7th Sense’, which was made on a budget of Rs 80 crore, collected Rs 100 crore. And among the Tamil films released that year, ‘7th Sense’ was the highest grossing film.
2012 Diwali Movies (13 November):
1. Gun – Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal
2. Boda Bodi – Simbu, Varalashmi
3. Mom’s Cell Phone – Shantanu Bhagyaraj, Iniya
Vijay starrer ‘Thuppakki’ collected more than 125 crore rupees and became the highest grossing Tamil film of that year.
2013 Diwali Movies (03 November):
1. Beginning – Ajith, Arya, Nayanthara, Taapsee
2. Pandya Nadu – Vishal, Lakshmi Menon
3. All in All Akuraja – Karthi, Kajal Aggarwal, Santhanam
Both Ajith’s ‘Arambam’ and Vishal’s ‘Pandiya Nadu’ have given relatively good collections.
2014 Diwali Movies (23 October):
1. Kaththi – Vijay, Samantha
2. Pooja – Vishal, Shruti Haasan
Vijay’s ‘Kaththi’ was made on a budget of Rs 70 crore and collected Rs 130 crore. At the same time, Vishal’s ‘Poojai’ failed to get any response.
2015 Diwali Movies (11 November):
1. Dungavanam – Kamal Haasan, Trisha
2. Vedalam – Ajith, Shruti Haasan
While both the films were well received, Ajith’s ‘Vedalam’ collected Rs 125 crore.
2016 Diwali Movies (30 October):
1. Flag – Dhanush, Trisha, Anupama Parameswaran
2. Kashmora – Karthi, Nayanthara, Sridivya
3. Unscreened story – Nadia, Iniya
Ajith, Vijay, Rajinikanth and Kamal’s films are not releasing for Diwali this year. At the same time, Karthi’s film ‘Kashmora’ was not well received by the fans, though it earned good collections. However, Dhanush’s film ‘Kodi’ was a huge hit with the audience.
2017 Diwali Movies (18 October):
1. Mersal – Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha, Nithya Menon, SJ Surya
2. Mayatha Maan – Vaibhav, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Vivek Prasanna
3. One Day in Chennai 2 – Sarathkumar, Napoleon, Ajay
‘Mersal’ directed by Atlee and starring Vijay was well received by the fans. Especially among the films released that year, it collected 260 crore rupees and became the first. It is also the 7th highest grossing Tamil film worldwide. The movie ‘Meyadha Maan’ also earned a remarkable collection.
2018 Diwali Movies (20 October):
1. Sarkar – Vijay, Keerthy Suresh
3rd time A.R. The Murugadoss-Vijay joint venture, a Diwali release alone, grossed Rs 243 crore. It is also the 9th highest grossing Tamil film worldwide.
2019 Diwali Movies (27 October):
1. Bigil – Vijay, Nayanthara, Jackie Shroff
2. Prisoner – Karthi, Naren,
Again directed by Atlee and starring Vijay, the film received mixed reviews. However, it was the top grosser of the year with a collection of Rs 305 crore. It is the 6th highest grossing Tamil film worldwide. At the same time, the film ‘Khaithi’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj received a huge response despite the limited number of theatres.
2020 Diwali Movies (14 November):
1. Praise Surya – Surya, Aparna Balamurali, Urvashi
2. Mookkutty Amman – Nayanthara, RJ. Balaji
3. Piscoth – Santhanam, Tara
It can be said to be the year that led to OTT when the cinema industry was weakened due to the corona lockdown and theaters were not opened. Due to this, in the midst of heavy protests and protests, the films ‘Surarai Pobutu’ released on Amazon Prime and ‘Mookukthi Amman’ released on Disney Plus Hotstar met the expectations of the fans.
2021 Diwali Movies (04 November):

It is the 10th highest grossing Tamil film worldwide. Similarly, the film ‘Jaybeam’ was well-received by the audience even though it was accused by a section of denigrating certain communities.
2022 Diwali Movies (24 October):
1. Sardaar – Karthi, Laila, Rashikanna
2. Prince – Sivakarthikeyan, Maria, Sathyaraj
Both Karthi and Sivakarthikeyan are currently the top actors in the market of Tamil cinema, so there is a lot of expectation on their films.
