Filtered the first image of the KTM 890 SMT

by time news

The KTM 890 SMT already has its final lines, and it has been practically completely filtered. An image revealed by the Magacin media and which they assure comes from KTM itself, reveals how its new ‘on-road’ mode will look, which has very well-defined features and uses the current platform of the 890 Adventure .

It was the CycleWorld outlet that recently hunted down the Austrians testing the bike. A few weeks later, KTM itself officially confirmed through a message the arrival of its new 890 SMT, but without giving further details about it. They only said that it was about the return: “The Rumors Are True: The KTM Supermoto Travel Is Back”, they pointed out.

In between we have seen some leaks, and now this is the final look. There is no doubt about it: it is clearly an 890 but with road wheels and suspension, very supermoto style, and it is practically identical to the one we saw a short time ago rolling around our country.

This KTM is a reinterpretation of a combination between the Supermotard and Touring that first arrived in 2009. Back then It came with a 999 cc water-cooled engine, giving 115 hp at 9,000 rpm. and a maximum torque of 97 Nm at 7,000 rpm.

From what we could confirm, according to the photo, is that it would come with suspensions signed by WP, and braking provided by Brembo. The powerplant is identical to the LC8c at first glance,

In the absence of official data (we will have to wait until April 24 to know the model definitively and officially), we also appreciate that it is most likely that some components of the cycle part come directly from the KTM 890 Duke, but keeping many others from the 890 Adventure, such as chassis, exhaust, bodywork… The engine would be the same 889 cc LC8c that currently performs 105 CV a 10.000 rpm and a maximum pair encrypted in 100 Nm at 6,500 turns. Or perhaps they will put the propeller of the 890 Duke R up to 121 hp? Soon we will leave doubts.

One of the differentiating elements of this motorcycle it will be the fuel tank, which will not be the same as that of the 890 Adventure at all. Everything indicates that it is a new design, narrower and perhaps with a few liters less capacity. At the rear, tail and subframe identical to those of the 890 Adventure, a cropped screen that also takes its sister adventure and mirrors stolen from the 890 Duke.

Taking into account that this year’s KTM 890 Adventure has a starting price of 14,259 euros, its SMT version will move in similar figures or perhaps slightly above, on the border of 15,000 euros. Some of its direct rivals should be the Yamaha Tracer9 (12,249 euros), the BMW F900XR (12,920 euros) o la Ducati Multistrada v2 (15.790 euros).
