Baku became the venue for another unique event. With great success, from September 17 to 30, an international metal symposium was held in the region for the first time “Baku Steel Art 2024“. A grandiose project was organized on the territory of the JSC “Baku Steel Company“, the largest metallurgical enterprise in the Caucasus, in collaboration with the art gallery QGallery, known for its achievements in promoting fine art, Day.Az reports with reference to Trend.
12 artists from 7 countries took part in the project. Azerbaijan was represented by sculptors Rashad Alakbarov, Teymur Garibov, Rakhib Garayev, Mushfig Heydarov, Chinara Bakhshiyeva and Zhalya Aliyeva. International participants included Alexander Popkhadze (Georgia), Nilhan Sesalan (Turkey), Ciprian Hopirtean (Romania), Nirit Levav Packer (Israel), Kamen Tanev (Bulgaria) and Haribaabu Naatesan (India).
The opening of the final exhibition was attended by government and public figures, representatives of culture and science, creative intelligentsia and youth.
The event was attended by the General Director of Baku Steel Company Kamal Ibrahimov, the founders of QGallery, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Emin Mammadov, Vice-Rector of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts, People’s Artist Salhab Mammadov, Chairman of the Board of the Karabakh Revival Foundation Rahman Hajiyev, Rector of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Arts, People’s Artist Natig Aliyev , project participants.
It was emphasized that the purpose of the symposium was to demonstrate how art and metallurgy can interact to promote sustainable development and serve as a catalyst for environmental change. This international project offered a new perspective on the harmonious combination of art and industry in the context of global environmental challenges, emphasizing the importance of environmental awareness and responsibility. The symposium participants not only created original works, but also actively exchanged ideas and experiences, helping and inspiring each other for new creative searches.
Craftsmen, working with welding or wielding a grinder, turned metal into art objects that could surprise, inspire, or even touch to the core. Each installation created during the symposium was unique and reflected the individual approach of the author. This process required complete dedication and a creative approach aimed at creating beauty. It was noted that it would be possible to organize further symposiums in the future, as there was more interest in the project than expected. Experienced employees of the Baku Steel Company provided technical support to the sculptors. Unique works of art will be placed in Karabakh.
The completion of the Baku Steel Art 2024 symposium coincided with preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which once again emphasized the relevance of environmental issues and the importance of sustainable development in modern industry. At the same time, artists from different parts of the world who arrived in our country contributed to the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” in Azerbaijan.
