Lithuanians started to control the course of the match from the first moments. Our team showed an iron defense and after a few minutes we took a 6-1 lead.

The situation was soured by an unsportsmanlike foul by Gintautas Matulis, after which the Poles managed to get close to ours, but the neighbors’ recovery did not take long.

In the middle of the match, the Lithuanian basketball players were leading 13:7 and this is where the final turning point of the match took place.

Having tasted victory, the Lithuanians attacked their neighbors like wild beasts, and after a couple of minutes, the Lithuanian trio team celebrated their first victory in the Olympics with a score of 21:12.

Evaldas Džiaugys performed impressively, scoring 10 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. Aurelijs Pukelis added 7 points and 4 grabs. G. Matulis and Šarūnas Vingelis scored 2 points each.

The Lithuanian 3×3 national team, coached by Dainius Novicks, consists of Aurelijus Pukelis, Šarūnas Vingelis, Evaldas Džiaugys and Gintautas Matulis.

The Lithuanians started the tournament by losing 14:21 to the Olympic champions Latvia, and in the second game they disappointingly lost to the French 20:21.

The Poles started the championship 19:21 by recognizing the superiority of France, but later beat the USA national team 19:17.

The Lithuanian 3×3 national team will play one more match on August 1 – at 8:05 p.m. against the United States. On August 2, Lithuanians at 11:05 a.m. will fight against China, and on the same day at 2:35 p.m. will wrestle with the Netherlands. The Lithuanians will play the last match of the group on August 4 at 7:35 p.m. with Serbia.

This tournament will be unusually long for the trios. All teams will compete against each other, then the two best countries will advance to the semi-finals, and the 3rd-6th places will compete in the quarter-finals.
