BOLZANO. The economic and social function played by neighborhood businesses in South Tyrol has prompted the Provincial Council to approve further measures to support these activities in today’s session. “We want our towns to continue to be alive, first and foremost for the local population, because these activities increase the quality of life and the attractiveness of small towns,” says the provincial councilor for agriculture Luis Walcher.

Since the villages in South Tyrol often extend over very large areas, the Provincial Government believes it is necessary to support public establishments that are located in the center of small communities, even if there is another business outside of it that is at least a kilometer away. “The measure passed today will allow a greater number of businesses to benefit from subsidies and thus make their contribution to the local offering and the revitalization of the villages,” explains Walcher.

Until now, it was not possible to subsidize such businesses, since the criteria in force provided for economic incentives only if it was the only public place in the country. The Council also approved the proposal to financially support businesses hosted in a property owned by the public administration, since it is increasingly difficult to find people willing to manage such activities.
