From Wednesday, it is not possible for “vulgum pecus” to identify the owner of the French company in a few clicks. So far so easy. All you have to do is consult the “register of beneficial owners” (RBE), freely accessible online at data.inpi.fr or on one of the many platforms that also use this data (Infogreffe, Papers , Doctrine, etc.). “A step forward in financial transparency,” the government welcomed when the registry opened to the public in April 2021.

Three years later, Bercy drew the curtain. Only people who demonstrate a “legitimate interest in consulting this data” are now authorized to consult this information.
