This time, Bigo Live is in the spotlight after online gambling and pornography content was found on the application.
Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi also threatened to block access to Bigo Live and take legal steps following the discovery of online gambling and pornographic content on the application.
“If Bigo Live does not show good faith to resolve the online gambling and pornography issues, then we will take legal steps in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, not limited to blocking the Bigo Live application in Indonesia,” he said at the Office of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Central Jakarta, Thursday.
The Ministry of Communication and Information has sent a second warning letter to PT Bigo Technology Indonesia on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, following the discovery of online gambling and pornographic content on Bigo Live.
Through the letter, the Ministry of Communication and Information stated that PT Bigo Technology Indonesia must immediately delete all negative content circulating on the Bigo Live application.
“Bigo Live is also required to improve its moderation system to prevent negative content from reappearing in the future,” said Budi Arie in the letter.
The Ministry of Communication and Information in a cyber patrol from May 26 to August 8, 2024 found 121 accounts related to online gambling content on the Bigo Live application.
Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi also threatened to block access to Bigo Live.
