An Austrian court has imposed a fine of 2,700 euros (approximately ₹ 2.29 lakh) on a surgeon who removed an elderly patient’s wrong leg. A city court spokesman in the northern city of Linz said yesterday.
In May, a 43-year-old surgeon in Freestad removed the right leg instead of the left leg of an 82-year-old patient. The fault was discovered two days after the foot was removed. The case came to court. At the time, the surgeon was fined 2,700 euros (approximately ₹ 2.29 lakh).
In addition, the family of the patient was awarded 5,000 euros in compensation for his death.
