Q: Thank you for joining us today, Ambassador Saarela. Your comments about Finnish contributions to Iraq’s infrastructure are quite intriguing. Can you elaborate on the historical relationship between Finland and Iraq?
A: Thank you for having me. The history of Iraqi-Finnish relations is rich and dates back to the 1970s and 1980s. During that time, Finnish companies were instrumental in establishing essential infrastructure in Iraq. They were pioneers in various sectors supporting urbanization, which laid the groundwork for modern development in the country. This legacy has fostered a long-standing partnership that we continue to nurture today.
Q: It’s encouraging to hear about the involvement of Finnish companies in Iraq. Could you provide more detail on the specific areas these companies have contributed to?
A: Certainly! Finnish companies have been involved in numerous sectors, including construction, energy, and transportation. Their expertise in sustainable practices has also been crucial in providing innovative solutions to enhance Iraq’s infrastructure. For instance, Finnish firms have engaged in projects that prioritize water management and renewable energy, which are vital for promoting a healthier environment and sustainable urban development in Iraq.
Q: Shifting focus a bit, you mentioned the role of women in business and politics. Why is this involvement crucial for Iraq’s future?
A: The involvement of Iraqi women in business and politics is indeed a source of pride and joy. Their participation is critical to the country’s development because it harnesses the full potential of the population, promoting diverse perspectives and innovative solutions to societal challenges. Encouraging women to take active roles in these areas not only empowers them but also stimulates economic growth and promotes social stability. It’s essential for creating a balanced and progressive society in Iraq.
Q: What practical advice would you give to Iraqi women looking to get involved in business and politics?
A: My advice would be to pursue education and training in their fields of interest, seeking mentorship from experienced professionals. Networking is also vital; joining organizations that focus on women’s empowerment and economic development can provide valuable connections and resources. Moreover, I encourage Iraqi women to embrace their uniqueness and contribute their perspectives to the table. Their voices can bring about significant change and uplift their communities.
Q: How do you foresee the future of Iraqi-Finnish relations, particularly in terms of collaborative projects involving women?
A: I envision a future where Iraqi-Finnish relations continue to strengthen, with an even greater emphasis on collaboration that includes women’s participation in various projects. As we look at future initiatives, I believe there is a strong opportunity for joint ventures that prioritize not only infrastructure but also support for women-led enterprises and initiatives. By investing in women’s roles in this partnership, we contribute not only to the economy but also to a more equitable society.
Q: Thank you for your insights, Ambassador Saarela. Your words are not only inspiring but also indicative of the positive changes happening in Iraq. We look forward to seeing how these collaborations evolve.
