Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has announced that the man, who is under a travel ban, is suspected of committing a crime. A similar travel ban has previously been imposed on seven other Eagle S crew members, meaning they cannot leave the ship.

The rest of the ship’s crew are still under the command of its captain.

The Finnish newspaper “Helsingin Sanomat” reported that the ship’s crew is feeling well and Georgian citizen Davit Vadačkoriani has confirmed to the newspaper that he is the captain of “Eagle S”.

Hermans Ljungbergs, a lawyer representing the crew and shipping company “Caravella”, admitted to the Finnish news agency STT on Monday that the ship’s crew had expressed concerns about whether they would have enough food and drinking water. “Eagle S” has around 20 crew members.

“Eagle S” is suspected of damaging the underwater electric cable “EstLink 2” connecting Finland and Estonia on Christmas Day. Four communication cables in the Gulf of Finland were damaged at the same time.

The Finnish companies “Fingrid” and “Elisa” demand the confiscation of the ship in order to guarantee compensation for the damage caused to “EstLink 2”.

“The request for confiscation was made to secure our claim to cover the costs caused by this damage,” Jāko Vallenius, security manager of the telecommunications operator “Elisa”, told STT.

Finland’s state electricity transmission operator “Fingrid” announced that on Friday, a claim for confiscation of the vessel was filed in the Helsinki District Court.

Finland’s state data communications and information technology company “Cinia” plans to review its legal options on Friday.

The oil tanker has been impounded. The vessel was detained by the NIB on Saturday when it was taken to the port of Porvoo in a raid.
