Fire erupted at an old elementary school in Skogås, located south of Stockholm, during the night towards Saturday. The blaze resulted in injuries to two firefighters who have been transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at Beateberg’s old school, which was already abandoned. The fire was reported by a passer-by at 00:30, prompting the arrival of around 15 firefighters from the local rescue service.

During the operation, two firefighters sustained minor burns to their neck and hand while extinguishing the flames. The cause of their injuries remains uncertain, according to Anders Sessler, the officer on duty at the rescue service.

Just over an hour after the alarm was raised, the fire consumed the wooden house to such an extent that it broke through the roof, creating an illuminated spectacle in the night sky. With the fire intensifying, the rescue manager made the decision to allow the building to burn down completely.

The rescue service confirmed that Gamla Nynäsvägen, the road where the school is located, has been completely blocked off to ensure the operation can be conducted safely. The authorities estimate that the firefighting efforts will continue until at least 04:30.

The injured firefighters were promptly taken to the hospital by ambulance to receive medical attention. Their burns, although minor, necessitated immediate treatment.

As investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, the local authorities have emphasized the importance of caution while dealing with such incidents.
