Jecheon City, North Chungcheong Province, has decided not to use any firecrackers that use gunpowder at the ‘2024 Jecheon International Oriental Medicine and Bio Expo’, which opens on October 2.

In the aftermath of the firecracker accident that occurred during a music performance at the 20th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety also requested Jecheon City to cooperate in ‘refraining from using firecrackers.’

A Jecheon City official said on the 14th, “After the film festival accident, we immediately decided to replace fireworks with lights as special effects,” and “At that time, the Ministry of Public Administration and Security also sent a cooperation letter through Chungcheongbuk-do on the 7th requesting refraining from using them.”

Jecheon City will hold the ‘2024 Oriental Medicine Bio Expo’ at Wangam-dong Expo Park from the 2nd to the 7th of next month. This event will be held as a prelude to the 2025 Jecheon International Oriental Medicine Bio Natural Products Industry Expo. The city planned to use fireworks special effects to excite the audience during the opening ceremony and congratulatory performance stage.

Earlier, at around 9:30 PM on the 6th, during the 20th Jecheon International Music & Film Festival ‘One Summer Night’ performance in Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, firecrackers flew into the audience, injuring 16 audience members. Of these, 2 people with 1st and 2nd degree burns were taken by ambulance, and the remaining 14 went to the hospital on their own and received treatment.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by questioning event staff, including special effects managers.
