Cyrus and Australian Firerose got married in October 2023 and filed for divorce just seven months later.
Firerose became an American citizen. Last week, the singer shared a video on her Instagram receiving the documents for her new citizenship in Tennessee.
In the reel, the Australian can also be seen waving a United States flag and then celebrating the achievement by eating ice cream with a candle on top. She wrote in the caption: “This amazing country has been my home for 17 years. I couldn’t be more thrilled to become an American citizen!”
Divorce
Firerose, now the ex-wife of Billy Ray Cyrus, made allegations of abuse and manipulation against the singer.
Just seven months after the wedding, Firerose — whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodges — and Cyrus filed for divorce.
In an interview with Page Six (via People), Hodges stated that Cyrus imposed ‘strict rules’ on their relationship and that he attempted to keep her isolated. Furthermore, she admitted that she “didn’t have the courage to leave.”

“Billy had very strict rules,” she told the magazine. “I didn’t have a car. I was only allowed to go to the local chiropractor and to get my nails done once a month.”
Hodges said that her ex-husband forbade her from having visits from her relatives at their farm in Nashville, where they lived, but she could attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.
“If I needed to send a message, I had to read it to him to get permission,” she exemplified. “The same went for emails.”
Firerose also alleged that Cyrus verbally abused her, “screaming at the top of his lungs”: “He scared me, yelling: ‘You stupid fucking bitch, crazy whore.’ It was illogical, insane, and terrifying.”
The singer fears that Billy will use events from her “dark years,” when she was not sober, against her during the divorce proceedings. “He is a very evil man,” she emphasized.
Other Side
Billy Ray Cyrus made similar accusations against Firerose. In a supplemental document to the divorce petition, submitted on June 17, he claims that his ex-wife “has been conducting a campaign of isolation” against him, prohibiting him from speaking with one of his daughters.

In another document dated June 24, Cyrus reveals that he was physically, verbally, and emotionally abused by Hodges. He also denied her accusations.
