Los firefighters from France have stabilized this Tuesday morning the fire declared on Monday in the south of France near the border, in Pyrénées-Orientales, affecting more than 500 hectares and has forced the eviction of more than 3,000 people.

It was declared shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Monday; at the beginning, in “480 hectares in a peri-urban area with a high concentration of tourists”has reported the French Department.

The fire has forced the evacuation of four campsites and two housing estates in several municipalities: the fire affects Argelès-sur-Mer, Saint-André and Sorède.

Accommodations for the evicted

To welcome the evacuees they opened 7 shelters in Argelès-sur-Mer, Saint-André and Sorède for around 2,000 people.

Tourists from three campsites were able to return to their accommodation at midnight, while the Argelès-sur-mer City Council continued to welcome those from the fourth campsite overnight.

At least 17 firefighters are slightly injuredmainly due to inhaling smoke, and at the moment there are no victims among the population.
