After an extremely long wait, the 2022 World Cup kicked off tomorrow (Sunday) in Qatar. Just before the world’s greatest footballers step onto the grass in the country from the Gulf, the traditional opening ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m.

The opening ceremonies of the World Cup have become traditional since the 1990 World Cup, when they provided several memorable moments in the past including Diana Ross’ famous penalty in 1994 or Nelson Mandela’s message in 2010.

This time, unlike other ceremonies, a long list of artists announced that they would not participate, including Dua Lipa and Rod Stewart. Apparently Nicki Minaj and Maluma, who performed the World Cup song, will also appear at the opening ceremony.

Jungkook, one of the 7 members of the successful boy band BTS, will perform at the ceremony itself as confirmed by the band. He is expected to perform the hit song “Dreamers”, and is the first Korean artist to perform at the opening ceremony of the World Cup.

Apart from him, it is also possible that Robbie Williams, who performed a World Cup song in the past and will attend several events in Qatar, will participate. FIFA refused to release the identity of the participants in the opening ceremony.

The World Cup in Qatar is the World Cup in which the highest amount of money has ever been invested, and the organizers have promised a ‘historic’ opening ceremony, including a particularly impressive pyrotechnics show. The ceremony will take place at Al Bayt Stadium, where the opening match will be held. The stadium is expected to be filled with 60 thousand fans.
