Along these lines, the team Tony Casla / Theater They put their careers as stage professionals at the service, to represent a piece that, at the very least, combats the indifference and dehumanization of minors who are victims of war conflicts, which have occurred throughout history.

In case there is any doubt, in Fireworks -embers of life- There is no propaganda or melodramas that insult the intelligence of its viewers, there are only two children who could be from any part of the world. Children who, after the indiscriminate fall of bombs on the town where they live, had their lives changed in a matter of seconds. However, the above is the framework in which a moving story about the development of friendship as the result of a survival instinct develops.

There I found in this work of gestural theater, certain parallelisms with The fireflies’s grave of the Ghibli Studios. To the extent that the children who star in said animated film strengthen their ties after it became clear that they can no longer count on their families, in the midst of a context in which their lives have been crossed by a war. And yet, they prove to themselves that they are more than two “poor” orphaned children. In any case, in Fireworks -embers of life- The events unfold from another place, since the two children in this story use their imagination so that their transit in that “hut” (to call it something) that they set up next to a small pond, is the refuge that protects them. and abstract them from the dramatic circumstances of both. Of course, the conditions in which they live are precarious and unacceptable for any human being, but their hopes that things will one day improve keep them going. At the same time, their complicit games, their small fights…, are part of the beautiful brotherhood that they have formed in order to survive with each other at all costs. Meanwhile, both children learn in the process what it means to live in the present, with all that this entails.

The fact that both characters do not speak, added to the fact that the objects and places where the story takes place are present with the interpretation of its actors in perfect coordination with the lighting design and the sound space, made this work aimed at children and youth, something much starker than it is in itself. Being that we see two individuals facing each other representing something on a stage, which in our imagination and emotions will be received as larger than what gave rise to it. That is: Seeing those two excellent actors tremble with fear, smiling because they are accompanied by someone who has acquired an important weight in their lives…, leads one to reevaluate the value we are giving to the life of a human being, and by extension, to our own lives.

So, Fireworks -embers of life- I place it as an exemplary work, since transmits content of general interest accessible to people of all types. That is to say: no matter the age, the country of origin, the level of training…, so that a forceful message is understood, focused on taking sides for the maintenance of human dignity and for the resolution of conflicts in non-violent ways. I am aware that all this sounds “very nice”, “well-intentioned”, that I am talking about “a work for all audiences”, etc.… However, if we assume these premises as something decisive, then we will fall into a kind of cynicism and individualism in which even the practice of hedonism will be adulterated. These are not only questions that concern the field of ethics; but also that being consistent with our thoughts and emotions is not something that we should “postpone”, since, among other things, the contradictions of the world in which we live will be more difficult for us to digest.

Personally, I prefer to think that having a vocation for service gives meaning and meaning to our lives. And, as it cannot be otherwise, it can be exercised and manifested from different fronts. So if one encounters the commitment to children on behalf of these professionals (I say this remembering with dismay, admiration and affection another of their productions, Clowns), in tune with an acting, aesthetic and directing work worthy of study, then, one comes across montages that balance artistic research with historical documents, which bear witness to how our way of being a human being developed in a specific time.
