Forty-one years later, on November 16, 1980, in the pouring rain, the nation and the city were left reeling at the death of a loved one. Actor Jayan died in an accident. Jayan was forty-two years old on that burning day…
All of us are in primary school. The tragic news that stunned all the people of Kollam as if a death had happened in their own home. Copter accident during shooting in Sholavarat near Madras. The country burst into tears. Newspapers, film magazines and local news were full of Jayan news in black and white. No other death has shaken my childhood so much.
Jayan also slowly faded into oblivion during our teenage years. New Tarodayas… Mimickers revived Jayanormas, often unpleasant imitations but to rekindle the sweet memories of Jaya, to recognize…! Krishnan Nair, the first action hero of Malayalam cinema, had an eventful film career that marked his heart in the city of Kollam.

Vinayanan was also present to carry the mortal remains to the Malayalee Sabha Hall in Thevalli in the crowded rush which was brought home in a special flight and reached Kollam in the evening. At 11 o’clock in the night, when Mulankatakam was burnt on the pyre, Kollam also wept.
