Farooq Ahmed has been elected the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as the first former cricketer of the country. The former cricketer of the national team assumed responsibility as the interim president on Wednesday. On this day, a board meeting was held in the presence of 8 board directors in the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The old 8 directors were joined by two elected representatives of the National Sports Council, Farooq Ahmed and Nazmul Abedin Fahim. It fills the quorum.
After the resignation of the former president of BCB Nazmul Hasan Papon, the election of a new president became necessary. Farooq Ahmed took responsibility as the 15th board president of the country by the vote of the 10 directors present. Board president Farooq Ahmed said in an immediate response, ‘The target is very big. The first and foremost aim and objective of Bangladesh is to increase the honor of the country, to shine the face of the country.’
‘I want to see the team in one place. We have to work in many places. You know it has been working for a long time, right? There are many questions. My first and foremost job is to take cricket forward. Taking the country forward. If we keep this in mind things will be very easy for Bangladesh and Bangladesh cricket team. Let’s not divert to our side. We want to take Bangladesh forward as Bangladesh cricket team, as a country.’- Farooq added.
Farooq Ahmed was the captain of the national team in 1993-94. Then worked as a board manager. He was last associated with the board as a selector. Farooq Ahmed always wanted to work independently in BCB.
The controversial two-tier party selection process was introduced in 2016 during his second term as chief selector. In that process, the former captain resigned citing the fear of heavy interference by the board directors in his work. Farooq Ahmed joined the board after a long time. That too sits on the hot seat of BCB.
