Seventy-five people, including four first-time donors, participated in the first blood drive of the year on Thursday, January 8, demonstrating a continued commitment to local blood supplies.

A Lifesaving tradition Continues in Nîmes

Local volunteers and the EFS (French Blood Establishment) teamed up to host a successful blood donation event, aiming to increase donor numbers, particularly among young people.

The event took place at the Louis-Picard room, where volunteers from the Blood Donor Association and teams from the EFS welcomed participants. “It’s quite satisfying,†confided Chantal Bourneton, the president of the Amicale. The association is actively planning outreach programs to engage younger donors, with a goal of reaching approximately 100 donors by 2026.

Following the donation process, members of the Association provided a snack for donors.

Donation Frequency and Options

Individuals can donate blood up to four times a year for women and six times a year for men, with donations spaced at least two months apart. Donating plasma is also an option, and can be done between blood donations with a 15-day waiting period. Plasma donations are accepted at the Blood Donation Center at the University Hospital in Nîmes.

Appointments for both blood and plasma donations can be scheduled at dondesang.efs.sante.fr.

The next blood collection event is scheduled for Thursday, March 12, at the socio-cultural center Escal.

Bourneton concluded with an appeal for volunteers to join their team. “For the reception of blood donors, for the logistics of collections (five per year), for a few hours or a few days, to manage information on social networks, we will welcome you with pleasure,†she stated, highlighting the diverse opportunities to contribute to this vital community service.
