First changes on Twitter following Musk?

by time news

It soon became clear that he did not plan to remain a mere passive investor, and aside from a bunch of tweets on his favorite social network about possible changes that might be worthwhile to make online and its functioning, it turned out he would also join the company’s management team. Musk also stated that he hopes to make “significant changes” on the social network in the coming months.

Now it seems that he is already starting to work for actual changes, with the first project he will probably focus on being the “Twitter Blue” service, which is a subscription service for the company’s first payment. While this is not yet an operative move, it is a statement of intent, in Musk’s favorite way – tweets on Twitter of course.

Currently the paid service of Twitter seems quite desolate as it does not have so many attractive features that will make anyone pay for this service. The service currently includes the option to view and edit the tweets before they are sent, custom icons and the option to add bookmarks. In a series of tweets, Musk suggested a number of changes to the payment service. First he suggested that anyone who signed up would automatically get a user authentication mark (blue V).

In addition, Musk suggested that service users remove all advertisements. This is because “the power of corporations to dictate policies is so great, because Twitter depends on advertising money to survive.” By creating a revenue channel independent of advertising Musk hopes to break free from this dependency. Recall that the Tesla company controlled by Musk spent $ 10 on advertisements in all its years of existence.

In response to a tweet from one of the users from Argentina who called for a discount in the South American country facing economic difficulties, Musk wrote that pricing should definitely be proportional to the purchasing power and local currency of each place (although now the service does not operate in Argentina at all, only in USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia). Musk also argued that the price should drop to $ 2 per month (instead of $ 3 today) but be paid 12 months in advance. He also raised the possibility of payment via DogeCoin – the multi-billionaire’s favorite meme currency.

It is still unclear to what extent Musk actually has an impact on the social network, as he is indeed the major shareholder but not the controlling shareholder or manager of the company. The Twitter network did not respond to Musk’s active tweet series.
