First debate cost 12.7 million pesos, reports the INE

The first Presidential Debate had a cost of 12 million 775 thousand 586 pesos and 46 cents, reported the National Electoral Institute (INE).

The plenary session accepted the Report of the First Presidential Debate 2024. In this regard, counselor Carla Humphrey explained that this first exercise was the most watched debate in the history of Mexico.

“The reported rating reached 13.7 million people, of which 11.8 are over 18 years of age, which also includes digital streaming platforms,” he said.

Humphrey highlighted that, for the first time, this debate was interpreted simultaneously in three indigenous languages ​​and the broadcasts on the INETV YouTube channel reached 16,000 views in Mayan; 23,884 in Nahuatl and 41,133 in Tsotsil, in addition to 222,348 in Mexican Sign Language.

In turn, the General Council approved the appointment of the journalist Luisa Cantú Ríos, Carmen Elena Arcila Solís and Javier Solórzano Zinser as moderators of the Third Presidential Debate, to be held on May 19 at the Tlatelolco University Cultural Center, as well as the exercise ladder.E

In an extraordinary session, counselor Carla Humphrey Jordan -president of the Temporary Debates Commission- indicated that this third debate, titled Democracy and government: constructive dialogues, will have the dynamics of a time pool and “face to face”, without citizen participation , but with the moderation of three regions of the country: north, south and center.

The topics that will be addressed in this last exchange between the presidential candidates, Humphrey mentioned, are: Social policy; Insecurity and organized crime; Migration and foreign policy, as well as Democracy, pluralism and division of powers.

On the other hand, the list approved for the Third Presidential Debate includes a space for an introduction, the presentation of the candidacies and, subsequently, the discussion is divided into four segments.

The first three are subdivided into two blocks each, the last segment will be cross-questioning, it will also have a space of time allocated for a farewell message and ends with the closure of the debate.

Regarding the list, Carla Humphrey pointed out that it complies with the basic rules and with the agreement of the General Council by which formats “A”, “B” and “C” were established.

In the second round, Counselor Humphrey clarified that, in accordance with the agreement of the General Council by which the formats of the presidential debates were approved, the list presented is only a reference of possible scenarios, “for which it will be susceptible to adjustments, provided that “The agreements approved by this Council are complied with.”
