Adam Klapka helped the Calgary hockey players win 5:1 over San Jose with his first goal in the NHL. The Czech striker also earned five penalty minutes for the fight.
Klapka earned an invitation to the main team a few days ago thanks to his performances in the AHL, in which he leads the productivity of the Calgary Wranglers.
Against San Jose, he started on the wing of the fourth attack and scored for the first time in his sixth start in the NHL.
The 23-year-old striker opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a shot from behind the left circle.
“It’s amazing, I’ll never forget it,” gushed Klapka, confirming that his teammates wanted him to end the game with a Gordie Howe hat trick (goal, assist, fight). That didn’t work. “But I’m happy to have shown that I can play these tough matches. It means a lot to me. I feel that I’m capable of playing here. It’s just the beginning,” he continued.
At the beginning of the middle period, Givani Smith challenged Klapka to a fist fight with the score 2:0. The two exchanged a few shots before the Czech player lost his balance during one of the shots and ended up on the ice.
Klapka also got into the cornea in the previous duel with Vancouver, when the duel ended prematurely for him and his opponent Conor Garland.
Now the battle of Calgary kicked up again and in the 27th minute the lead was already five goals. Dustin Wolf didn’t get a goal until nine seconds before the end. Jan Rutta and Filip Zadina were missing from the losers’ lineup due to injury.
Lukáš Dostál led Anaheim to a 4-1 victory in Vegas on the last day of the NHL regular season and was named the first star of the match. The hero of the game stopped 32 shots.
Dostála was surpassed only in the power play by Jack Eichel, who used Tomáš Hertl’s screen in the 39th minute to equalize at 1:1.
Anaheim had a successful start to the final period, jumping to a 3:1 lead in the opening eighty seconds with a series of goals. The score was closed by Frank Vatrano, who completed a hat trick when Vegas was at risk without a goalkeeper.
