Fencing athlete Oh Sang-wook (28, Daejeon City Hall) and shooting athlete Oh Ye-jin (19, IBK Industrial Bank), who won the first individual gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, will receive products from the Swiss luxury watch brand ‘Omega’ as gifts.

Omega, the official timekeeper of the Olympics (a sponsor that measures game records at sporting events such as the Olympics and World Cup), announced ahead of the Olympics that it would “present two watches produced to commemorate the Olympics to two individual event athletes, one male and one female, who win the first gold medals in the games from the Korean national team.”

The Paris Olympic Edition watches are the ‘Speedmaster Chronoscope’ and the ‘Seamaster Diver 300M’. According to Omega’s official website, the prices of the two watches are 14.2 million won and 12.9 million won, respectively. Both watches have the Olympic emblem and the words ‘PARIS 2024’ engraved on the back.

The Speedmaster Chronoscope features a 43mm design in gold, black, and white, colors that symbolize the Paris Olympics, and contains the meaning of commemorating the Olympics. The Seamaster Diver 300M features a date display at 6 o’clock with numbers using the Paris 2024 typography, and the central second hand features a flame motif, the Paris 2024 emblem.

The main characters of this watch are Oh Sang-wook and Oh Ye-jin. Oh Sang-wook won Korea’s first gold medal by defeating Fares Ferzani (Tunisia) 15-11 in the men’s sabre individual final held at the Grand Palais in Paris on the 28th. On the same day, Oh Ye-jin also won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol after competing with her senior national team member Kim Ye-ji (32, Imsil County Office) until the end.

Omega’s Olympic Edition award ceremony began at the 2012 London Olympics. At that time, Jin Jong-oh, a shooter, received a watch as a gift. At the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, speed skater Lee Sang-hwa received a watch, at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, the men’s national archery team received a watch, and at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, short track speed skating Hwang Dae-heon and Choi Min-jeong received a watch.
