First look: Suzuki Jimny 5-door

by time news

Shortly after Suzuki removed the classic Jimny from its shelves due to air pollution regulations, the media quickly began to trickle out camouflaged images of its 5-door version, which is now finally on its way. The model was presented as part of the Delhi exhibition (Auto Expo) under the Maruti brand umbrella and it will be marketed in most of the countries relevant to it in the fourth quarter of this year. This means that in Israel we may see me at the end of the year or at the beginning of 2024.

The new Jimny adopts two more doors at the back with a very symmetrical and square profile, adds window space and light to the cabin and strengthens its utility side, making it the most adaptive Jimny ever since it was introduced in the 90s (over 3.2 million sales to date) . Proportionally, compared to the short model of the fourth generation, it was lengthened quite a bit, but Suzuki limited it to 3.99 m (an increase of about 50 cm), and this is because in India an increased tax is charged on vehicles that are over four meters long. The other dimensions – 1.66 m wide, wheelbase that grew by 34 cm to 2.59 m, 21 cm headroom and body height 1.72 m.

The passenger compartment has undergone measured updates (in the picture the Indian model with the steering wheel on the right). Suzuki changed the steering wheel to a new design, slightly upgraded the dashboard and in the center of the console there is a nine-inch main media monitor with Android and Apple to interface with the cell phones. It comes in its standard equipment with six airbags, a reversing camera, a limited slip rear differential and LED lighting. It does not have original manufacturer safety systems.

In its bow is a 1.5 L atmospheric engine with 103 hp connected to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, coupled to Suzuki’s traditional dual drive control, the Allgrip. Senior versions also add digital climate control, sprinklers for the headlights, a steering wheel with Leather upholstery, electrically folding mirrors. Suzuki states that it is designed for five people, with 230 L of storage volume behind the second row and up to 332 L when folded to the floor. Improvements have also been made to its audio system and the company ensures tighter and cleaner sound quality, despite its modest isolation .

Suzuki states that the 5-door Jimny will be a global model, although it is currently represented through the Indian division, where it will also go into production. Prices are not yet known, but in India it is estimated that there will be a considerable premium compared to the short model. The importer of Suzuki vehicles for traffic devices told ‘Olam Haravek’ that at this stage the vehicle will only be marketed in India, as was published and no date has been set for its delivery to Israel.
