Lisbon: Messi became the first player to score against 40 different teams in the Champions League. The PSG superstar’s achievement came when he netted against Benfica in the Champions League.

Behind Messi is Cristiano Ronaldo who has scored against 38 different teams in the Champions League. Messi hit the net in the 22nd minute against Benfica. But Benfica was able to equalize through Danilo’s own goal in the 41st minute.

Messi has netted in six of his last six matches across all competitions. This includes netting for Argentina in friendlies. This is the first time the Argentinian has scored consecutively since December 2018 to February 2019. Messi now has 127 Champions League goals in his account. Messi has scored seven goals in the Champions League for PSG so far.

In the game against Benfica, Messi was substituted by PSG in the 81st minute. Later, PSG boss Galtier came with an explanation. Messi was exhausted after a sprint. Gaultier said after the match that Messi asked him to substitute him from the ground. But the fans’ argument is strong that if Messi had not been withdrawn, he could have scored the winning goal.
