Commissioner Kobi Shabtai is now scheduled to meet with the leader of the ‘Jerusalem faction’, Rabbi Asher Deutsch at his residence in Bnei Brak |

The Commissioner of Police, Chief of Staff Kobi Shabtai, met at this time (Tuesday) with the leader of the ‘Jerusalem faction’, the Gaon Rabbi Asher Deutsch at his residence in Bnei Brak. The meeting is also attended by the rabbi of the police, Rabbi Rami Brachiahu. This is an unusual meeting, as Rabbi Deutsch and the “Jerusalem faction” usually refuse to cooperate with the authorities.

The police said that the rabbi had heard from the commissioner about the steps taken by the police to provide better police services to the ultra-Orthodox society in all its forms.

In addition, the two discussed the challenges of the police and its many tasks in maintaining law and order. According to the police, additional meetings are expected with the heads of the ultra-Orthodox society in Israel.

It will be recalled that exactly one week ago, the Commissioner met with the Rebbe of Gur at his residence in Jerusalem. This, among other things, against the background of the riots that have erupted in recent weeks between the Hasidic people and the group of retirees. The extraordinary meeting was also attended by the Chief of Police, Chief of Staff Rabbi Rami Berchiahu.

The meeting was held as part of a round of meetings held by the Commissioner with rabbis and rebbe in the ultra-Orthodox sector.

According to a police statement last week, the commissioner reviewed before the Rebbe the processes that are being promoted in the organization in order to strengthen the police’s connection with the ultra-Orthodox society. The commissioner presented to the Rebbe the police plans for the establishment of Shabbat-observant police stations in the ultra-Orthodox cities, as first published in Behadrei Haredim, and reviewed the challenges of the police before the Rebbe.
