In the first visit by a German president to Egypt in 25 years, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier began a 3-day visit to Cairo, with the aim of strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
According to the German News Agency, Steinmeier will meet his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in Cairo today, Wednesday, and the two presidents are expected to discuss bilateral relations and the conflict in the Middle East during the meeting.
The presidential office in Berlin said: “Steinmeier will be accompanied during the visit by an economic delegation, and there is a possibility of expanding the scope of these relations,” noting “the importance of this matter for Egypt, which is facing a difficult economic situation, and it also concerns Germany because it considers Egypt an economic gateway to the African continent.”

In this historic meeting, which brings together the two presidents after their last meeting in July 2022, the bilateral relations that have united Egypt and Germany for more than 70 years were highlighted. Germany is Egypt’s most important trading partner in Europe and the fourth largest in the world, and there are more than 250 German companies operating in Egypt.
