Fisheries, aquaculture and processing will be compensated with BGN 23 million because of the war

They will be with over 23 million BGN assisted the sectors fisheriesaquaculture and fish processing as compensation for market shocks in 2022 and 2023, in relation to the war in Ukraine. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Prof. Deyan Stratev during the final annual meeting of the National Fishery Network, which was held in Stara Zagora.

According to the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Program 2014 – 2020 (PMDR) it is determined assistance of nearly BGN 11 million for 2022 under measures 1.9 “Temporary suspension of fishing activity” and 5.3 for financial compensations due to the turmoil in the market caused by the war in Ukraine, which will be directed to the sub-sectors “Fishing”, “Aquaculture” and “Processing”. The signing of the electronic contracts between the Program Managing Authority and the beneficiaries has already started. After the conclusion of the contract, the aid can be requested before the DFZ.

For 2023, support of a total of BGN 12 million is planned for the compensatory measures for the three sub-sectors “Fishing”, “Aquaculture” and “Processing”. It is expected that the acceptance of the measures will be announced by the end of the year.

Deputy Minister Stratev commented that a total of 150 support contracts are expected to be concluded for 2022.

The event was also attended by the executive director of IARA, Dr. Nikolay Georgiev, representatives of the National Fishery Network, branch organizations from the “Fisheries” sector and various local fishing initiative groups.
