Pesca España, the association formed by some of the most important Fisheries Producer Organizations in our country, has joined the UN Global Compactan initiative that aims foster a fairer and more sustainable global economyand work in collaboration with other actors to achieve a sustainable development.
Antonio Nieto, manager of Pesca España, Cristina Sánchez and Marta Tomás, executive director and director of Corporate Development of the UN Global Compact in Spain, wanted to make the accession official in a meeting in which ideas, challenges and commitments were exchanged to align strategies and operations with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the Ten Universal Principles on human rights, labor standards, the environment and the fight against corruption. In addition, it marks the beginning of close collaboration to carry out joint initiatives in terms of sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
Antonio Nieto, manager of Pesca España, explained that “At Pesca España, we are very proud to be part of the UN Global Compact since we are firmly aligned and committed to the objectives and values promoted by this initiative that, surely, will highlight the responsible work and sustainable fishing practices of our sector”.
One more step in the commitment to sustainability
Respect for the environment and care and respect for marine biodiversity is part of the fundamental pillars of Pesca España, which aims to promote seafood products from sustainability, tradition and happiness. Therefore, through this accession this commitment is reinforced and steps forward continue to be taken in the defense of the Spanish fishing sector.
“The future of fishing involves knowing how to respond to the challenge of being more sustainable, more efficient and respectful, if possible, of the seas and oceans. That need implies acting proactively to confront these realities. We must navigate towards a sustainable and responsible future, where the oceans continue to be a source of life and sustenance for future generations.”concludes Nieto.
