FITUC Closing: The Egyptian play “Negative Zero” wins the festival’s grand prize

Directed by Mostafa Talaat, this play, which was performed at the Grand Théâtre de Ben M’Sick in Casablanca, addresses certain fundamental elements that Man has neglected in his humanity, and which are among the main causes of depression and psychological imbalance for oneself and for Others.

The jury prize went to the German play “Et la démocratie, bon sang!”, while the award for best theatrical production went to Korean director Hanna Kim.

The award for best male performance was given to Egyptians Chahir and Mahmoud Taoufiq, while the award for best female performance was given to Indonesian Arfizyatou Rahmi for her role in “Ark that remains silent”. The appreciation award was won by Armenian actress Emy for her role in the play “Risk”.

Regarding scenography, the plays “Negative Zero” and “Ark that remains silent” were awarded. The jury also awarded the prize of the late Rachid Hadri to the play “Refuge” by the troupe of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of Mohammedia.

In a statement to MAP, the president of the festival and dean of the Faculty of Letters and Human Sciences of Ben M’sik, Brahim Fadadi, affirmed that this edition was distinguished by a rich and diversified program, in particular theatrical performances from different continents, which were presented in many theaters and cultural complexes located in the popular neighborhoods of Casablanca and some cities in the region.

In addition to theatrical performances, this year’s program also included training workshops for students and theater enthusiasts, as well as scientific seminars with the participation of Moroccan and foreign artists, academics and researchers.

For her part, Moroccan actress Siham Assif, a member of the jury of this edition, stressed that this year’s theatrical performances were of high quality, whether in terms of decoration or themes presented, noting that the jury relied on precise criteria, including artistic and technical aspects.

Creativity was an important criterion in the selection of the winners, given that this festival is dedicated to young theatrical talents who stand out for their research and innovation.

The closing ceremony of this festival, placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was marked by the screening of an institutional film on the highlights of this event.

In addition to a theatrical exhibition, certificates were also presented to all contributors to the success of this edition.
