Five people have been arrested following riots in the English city of Leeds, West Yorkshire Police said in a statement.

This was reported by Day.Az, citing Russian media.

“We have made a number of arrests in connection with disturbances in Harehills last night, with five people in custody,” Assistant Chief Constable Pat Twiggs said in a statement.

Twiggs added that police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the riots. At present, law enforcement officers are identifying all individuals involved in the riots and will continue to make arrests over the next few days. There will be an increased police presence in the area in the coming days.

The riots in question began in the English city of Leeds on Friday, July 19. It was reported that the offenders set fire to a double-decker bus and also overturned a police car.

The unrest is believed to have started after social services removed four children from a family living in the deprived Harehills area.
